Laurel Grove Inn is committed to protecting the health of the South River and supports the efforts of the South River Federation, a local non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the South River and its watershed.
The South River Federation serves as the eyes and ears of the South River. The Riverkeeper regularly monitors water quality at its tidal and non-tidal monitoring stations throughout the watershed. Every year the South River Federation produces an annual report card that highlights the progress made on restoration efforts.
Since 1999, South River Federation has implemented over 70 stream projects include living shorelines, rain gardens and stream restoration to reduce sediment and pollution run off and improve water quality. In addition, the South River Federation leads efforts to increase oyster recovery in the River and partners with over 85 resident oyster growers to add 2 million spat to the Glebe Bay oyster sanctuary annually.
